Star torotise
After a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long time
Have been going around a bit.
Happened to see another illegal pet in my condo again - A star torotise (natchathira aamai)
It is an Indian species.
Look at the patterns over its shell, Isnt it a beauty... ? That same beauty threatens the species. The guy simply sits indoors, chewing carrot and tomatoes. Probably he wont have an idea, how a "she" tortoise looks like, might not even have a clue what is a "she"... What a life ?
As usual, reported to and rescued by ACRES. (www.acres.org.sg)
They celebrated their 5th birthday screening "Gorillas in the mist" movie with vegan food... I enjoyed meeting them.
Wish them best for the years to come and keep up their great work.
Recently they rescued and repatriated a macaque to India (named Asha, see here )
Singapore doubtlessly is a hub for illegal wildlife trade... (by the way is there a legal wildlife trade,... trading any form of wildlife should be declared illegal)
Unfortunately wildlife is ranked as "can be traded w/w.o permits"...
Complex.
Will get back later, have a lots to write and post... :-)

Great to see ur post after a long time :) Keep up the good work! And, Anb, can u get copies of as many wildlife and nature movies as u can from there in Singapore (sure, only those which u come across- no special effort needed). These would be helpful in my teaching. I hope, I can bear ur expenses in doing so. Heard u r coming next month to India. We'll sure meet then.
